(Styxx and Mimfy)
For days he had watched from the trees as humans flocked to this place. Le Cirque they called it as they came and went, their conversations usually bursting with stories of what they had seen during their visit or what they hoped to see when they arrived. More than a few would bring up the monsters and magic the circus boasted of. A place bursting with monstrous creatures and dark magics, the young said said while adults claimed it was all costumes and smokes and mirrors.
Which was it, the bird wondered. Was this place really the potential home he had heard of, or just a giant lie, as the humans seemed to believe?
That was what he finally decided to find out.
Using some skills he had learned years ago, he adopted a human form, trading his feathers for skin and hair, while also conjuring clothes he believed matched the current human styles. Then he followed behind a family as they walked through the circus's entrance and took in his first ground view of Le Cirque.
He was struck first by the number of humans and the amount of shouting, laughing, and tittering they did. They were everywhere, pointing at the carnies, playing games, buying food, and disappearing into the numerous tents the circus boasted of.
Straightening the white shirt he had made a part of his new look, Rhys peered around the grounds helplessly.
Where was a bird to start?

The lights were lowered, smoke furling into the large tent. It remained dark and eerie, music starting to play at a low key, to keep the audience intrigued. And they were, voices hushed and eyes riveted on the stage, the whole of the tent buzzed with curiosity. What would they see now? The announcement had been about a dancer, but would this dancer have such an eerie start? Soon, a frame could be seen amid the smoke, still as a statue.
The click of the music had the frame move oh so slightly, changing its position but only to hold it since the music stopped just as quickly as it came. Another click, another movement and it continued for about a minute until...
With a blast of wild, delightful music the frame was lit up with orange light, suddenly dancing around erratically to the music. Spin after spin, young Jena entranced the audience with her lithe, effortless moves. Hips undulating with each drum, she weaved her arms about her body in elegant arcs. She knew how to pull everyone in and she was doing so now.
Her beauty was quite rare and exotic, her dark skin natural; but the humans thought it makeup. Everything about her was thought fake, and at times, it upset her. She liked her ancestry, Jena appreciated what she was, so hearing humans gush about how good her makeup was sometimes offended her. Albeit, no one would ever know; she was too kind and quiet for most to see her irritated or annoyed.
She continued to dance in her orange light, garbed in fiery clothing and looking very much like dancing fire.

He was still wandering fairly aimlessly when he had heard more than a few members of the crowd mention the next show was starting. Perhaps that was something worth looking into. After all, he had only observed the ground from the air and the trees. He never had the chance to see what went on in those tents.
Then a loud, low note drummed out from the tent in the center of the grounds, drawing his attention. Golden eyes studied the tent as another thum and another echoed out over the grounds, just cutting over the chatter and various other sounds that filled the grounds.
Boom.
Curiosity won him over. Weaving through the crowds, Rhys found his way to the big top entrance just seconds before the music burst into life. And like so many of the humans, he was instantly transfixed by the sight of the dancer before him.
She looked nothing like the other humans, MOVED nothing like them. It was graceful, it was playful, it was WILD.
As more people poured in through the entrance he was forced to tear his gaze away long enough to find a spot to watch from. It took some doing as every so often he would stop to catch more of the dancing and the place was packed, but soon enough he found a spot high up at the top of the bleachers where he could watch unhindered, unbothered, completely unnoticed in the shadows while he watched this wild display.
He had never been transfixed like this before, especially by a human. Some part of him was sure there was some real magic involved here, he just wasn't sure of what. But as she danced in the orange light, looking so much like the fire he knew intimately, he felt he could worry about that later.

Music filled the tent for what seemed like eternity, Jena dancing in the center of the stage without tiring. It was erratic, but at times she'd slow with the rhythm and beat of the music, her movements slow and almost seducing. But she'd quickly pick up the pace and return to that wild, fiery dance that the audience were quickly falling for.
As she danced, all she could think about was fire. It's mesmerizing glow, the warmth and wild danger it held. Fire was fickle, welcoming and full of home, but horribly destructive when uncontrolled. She remembered a time long ago when she had been like a raging fire, ready to devour the world around her.
That had passed and now she was nothing but a warm ember, kind to everyone around her, but would bite as soon as you dared touch her wrong. That latter could go many different ways.
Her passionate dance definitely revealed some of her wild nature. Although, she was wild; in more ways than one.

He was too far away. He wanted to get closer, but the place was full...except for near the performers entrance. Rhys tore his gaze away from the dancer and left his position in the bleachers to try and get nearer to that entrance. A difficult task, but he manged it. Everyone else wanted to watch from the front of the ring.
He had all the space he wanted and leaned against the partition that kept the audience from wandering into the ring. This position suited him much better He was on the same level as her and he could observe that wonderful dance still unhindered.
It was still mesmerizing and it was all he could do not to become a bird again and fly int that orange light with her though, to see how she really liked dancing in flames. But caution still won him over.
Perhaps another time. For now he would watch.

Eyes upon her was a normal thing, Jena was used to being watched. And to be frank? She loved it. It caused her blood to light up with excitement, urging her on and on in her dance; to perform as breathtaking as she could. It worked wonders, but she wasn't egotistical. By far, if someone ever asked her how she danced as beautifully as she did, she'd take them aside and say it was all hard work and tell them to practice and they will be amazing someday as well.
Drums pounding in her ears, heart racing in time with the rhythm, Jena's heart sank once the music rang to a stop; though her moves ended with it and showed no sign of her sadness. She was picturesque in every way.
However, if one looked hard enough, they'd see her disappointment.
The crowd stood and cheered their excitement about her dance, shouting their encores and amazement. All Jena responded with was a smile, wave and her curtsy. She'd gladly give them an encore, but not today. As much as she'd love to continue dancing forever, she had to pretend that she was tired and needed her rest. That kind of dance was enough to wipe a normal human silly.
Turning, she made her way towards the exit, unbeknownst that she'd pass her most intrigued fan. Though when she passed him, she gave a soft smile of recognition, instead of being a pompous ass and walking by without acknowledgement. Jena was kind, she wouldn't ignore someone unless they really angered her.
Once out in the cool evening air, she stretched her arms out and did a little jig.

He was disappointed that the show ended as well. But he supposed that was how these things worked. He cheered clapped and whistled with the rest of them, since that seemed the proper way to show his appreciation, though it didn't seem to be anywhere near enough. He was still clapping as he watched the dancer start to walk out of the ring and right past him. Without the orange lights causing her to look like she was bathed in flames, he was able to see her as she was.
She didn't look like the other humans in this dome, and he had an inkling that there was much more to her than just a dancer. He was considering this as she walked past, and he almost missed realizing the smile was for him. He had not been expecting that. At all.
He opened his mouth to say something, but she was already moving past. He leaned over the partition just enough to watch her exit before turning and darting back though the bleachers to the audience entrance. He was indeed intrigued and he felt that words were needed to express how beautiful that dancing was.
Reaching the exit, he stepped out onto the grounds and made haste around to where that other exit would be located, silently cursing the fact that she would probably be gone by the time he got around the big top. When he did reach that exit, she was indeed gone. Frustrated, he scanned over the shifting crowds to try and spot her. Maybe she didn't go too far...
Probably not for the first time, he wished he could just shift and fly over the crowd to try and spot her. But luck was on his side and he caught a flash of dark skin and orange fabric. Quickly he started walking after her.

The evening air was quite refreshing, 'specially since the tent seemed to gather heat like moths to a light. But, she enjoyed the warmth, she did come from a desert after all. With a hum, she continued forward.
Jena was on her way to her tent to rest when a group of kids suddenly surrounded her. Their peels of excited laughter filled her ears and she stopped immediately. Eyebrows raised, she stared down at the children in bemusement.
"Lady, lady! Is it true you make wishes?" asked the taller of the group, holding onto a toddler's hand. Those bright blue eyes just begged for attention and Jena's heart swelled inside her.
She bent down, a bright smile upon her face as she poked the boy's nose. "Of course, little one." she said, her voice exotic, but held the warmth of a loving mother. Although you'd have to sneak a peek at her in moments like these to learn of it. "What is it you desire?" It wasn't like she tried to portray herself as a wish giver, or even a magician. She never tried to be, but when it came to kids she liked to pretend.
Sometimes she'd get a bunch of spoiled rich kids and she'd know right away, it was hard not to miss that unmistakable sneer that never seemed to leave their face. A whine in their tone also was a good indication, but Jena would always seem to tell that deep down they were starving for attention. However, these little dears were far from this.
Their clothes dirty and tattered, she could tell they were not exactly wealthy and that caused her heart to sink. Poor things should never have to suffer through things caused by ridiculous adult mistakes!
"I want a pony!" the small girl suddenly spoke, breaking Jena over her reverie. Blinking in pleasant surprise down at the adorable little thing, she broke into a smile.
"A pony?" she repeated, tapping her cheek with a finger. "Hmm, I do recall there being ponies around here, but they are quite difficult to take care of." Jena winked at the little girl, leaning close so that their noses almost touched. "Do you think you're up to the task to own such a noble steed?"
The little girl nodded her head so vigorously, it was a wonder she didn't give herself a whiplash. Nonetheless, Jena's smile broadened and she pursed her lips in fake thoughtfulness as her hands folded behind her. A swirl of her finger and a white, plush unicorn appeared in her hand, but hidden from the enthralled eyes of her brood.
"Well, if you're so sure..." with a flourish she pulled out the toy and held it out to the little girl who's face lit up, surprise and wonder filling her eyes. "Take very good care of him."
The rest of the kids oohed and aahed, but they didn't seem to be as eager to receive a gift, which showed that they were appreciative of the simple surprise.
"Thank you, thank you!" the little girl squealed and hugged the little toy close.

Rhys hung back when the children surrounded the woman. Children were not things he had an opportunity to deal with, nor had he ever wanted to. He peered over the group. Most of the children were grubby. He had seen others who seemed better taken care of so these must be strays. At least, that's how the bird saw them. The dancer seemed hardly bothered by them though. In fact she looked quite pleased by their attention, so he decided to just observe from a spot off and out of the side to see what they did.
It meant he was in the perfect position to see the unicorn toy materialize in the woman's hand. His gold eyes widened in surprise as his earlier suspicion was proven true. So not completely human after all. He watched as she gave the little girl the gift and the children squealed in delight. He was even more intrigued by this mystery before him and wondered what else she was capable of.
He watched as the children ran off and resumed his slow approach to the woman. He had so many questions now to ask and no idea how to ask them, so he held back until he could think of the best way to actually approach her.

Warm smile now ever present, Jena straightened as the children ran off, echoes of their thank yous and happy laughter in her ears. She placed her hand on her hip, bangles jingling at her movement. She seemed so calm and statuesque as she stood there, definitely a change from her wild dance from before. Though that didn't mean the fire wasn't still alit in her chest.
A hum left her, eyes closing as a breeze stirred up her long hair, bringing the statue to life. She turned her head and looked behind her and right at the poor lad who seemed unsure of how to approach her. Amethyst eyes bright and vivid against her dark skin, she didn't speak for a second.
"Can I ask why you've followed me, dear lad?"

Rhys glanced to the side, believing there was someone standing beside him as he didn't immediately realize he was the one she was addressing. Luckily he clued in quickly, but unfortunately he had not been prepared to be called out.
"Um..." his voice carried a soft accent, a carry over from when he first learned how to talk like humans so many years ago. Usually he would just be blunt and outright say why he was doing something, but since he really didn't know where to start he was at a loss. "I- ah- really liked your dancing." he finally muttered, scratching at his head and glancing aside, annoyed at how flustered he was getting. To be fair to himself though, he admitted he had not talked to anyone for a long time. Yes, that was it.

Not at all bothered by the man's surprise and obvious haste for words, she folded her arms and waited for him patiently. Blank, she didn't appear to be irritated or flattered, though inside her curiosity burned, rekindled since for some reason or another this man didn't strike her as the normal she had run into.
But, even though she was ready for anything, that was not on her list. Even if she had heard it many times before, this felt genuine and sincere. Blinking her pretty eyes, she stared at him in silent astonishment, probably making him even more awkward than he already was.
Arms having fallen to her sides, she turned away with a clear of her throat and hid her pleasant red blush. Due to her species, and skin color, it would be a nice dark, red upon her cheeks; not exactly hard to miss if one saw it. "Thank you," she mumbled finally and clasped her hands together in front of her, amid the furls of her skirt. "Is that all you wanted to say to me?"
For the life of her she had no idea why, but she felt as if that wasn't the only thing he wanted.

He tilted his head when her cheeks turned pink. That was... embarrassment? Had he done something to embarrass her already? That had not been his intention.
"No...no." He shook his head and tried to gain some manner of pride back. He cleared his throat and stood a little straighter as he tried to not look so flustered. "I had some more questions....If that's alright?" He inquired. Experience told him to make sure questions were welcome before jumping right into them.

His answer proved Jena that he did, in fact, want more. And that made her tense up, face a brick of emotionless ice, she titled her head to the side and watched him with mild curiosity. Now came the fun part, was he going to ask her what she usually was asked or was it going to be different? God, she hoped different.
She placed a hand on her hip and she pursed those plump lips. "Go right ahead, I've nothing but time." she said, which was true. Unless V decided that he needed her for something, all she had was time; and it usually was boring anyway-- being immortal and all.

He narrowed his eyes and glanced aside. He wanted to ask what she was, since what manner of creature could make a toy appear from thin air? But he knew enough to know that was rude, and she had gone from blushing to imitating a panther waiting to pounce.
"Are you..." He shook his head and changed his track. "They say this place is a haven for people who are a little...different." He glanced back to her and looked her over, taking in her dark, dark skin and purple eyes, while her magic earlier rested at the front of his memory. "Is it true?"
