PROLOGUE 3013
Beth woke to the sound of her phone ringing. At first she thought it was hellish ringing due to her dream of....well she couldn't really remember now. She got up, still feeling groggy, and feeling a little grumpy. It was her day off, and people knew to let her get her rest, to leave her alone. There were only two people who would dare break this rule, and in both cases it would have to be an emergency. Beth rubbed her face, then got up and went to the kitchen, to answer her phone. She was hoping it was her brother when she answered, but of course it was her boss.
"What do you want?"
"Beth, I have bad news, they took your brother."
Beth was silent for a few moments. Her brother Brandon was the top of his field...of cybernetics. He wanted to make new cybernetic parts where it would grant people powers of sorts. It was technology that was meant to help cops fight crime better. however, in the hands of them...well it could be really bad for the world, especially since they wanted to destroy the world. She pressed her fingers to her face, in between her eyes.
"So, the people that are the worst possible people to have my brother's technology or my brother, do indeed have him?"
"Affirmative, they took him late last night, I've been calling you since."
That explained why the ringing had been in her dream. She grit her teeth and pounded the nearby wall.
"I'll take care of it." she said finally, and hung up the phone. She then went and got dressed, and ignored her phone as it began to ring again. She knew it would be her boss, telling her to think straight, to not be rash, on and on like that. It was her brother...her genius little brother, so no she would not be rash, and she would not think before acting. Thinking would waste more time, and enough had been wasted with her boss trying to call her.
She grabbed her keys and went to her bike, a old Harley that she somehow managed to keep in good shape despite its age. She started it up and drove into the city. She went straight for the building that the PROTECTORS thought to be the headquarters of THEM. Though it had never been confirmed due to the building looking like any other office building, she had always felt that it was the right building...besides, she had to start somewhere. She reached the building and parked her bike near the sidewalk, making sure that her PROTECTORS logo was showing so that it wouldn't be towed. She looked up to the top of the building before walking up the steps, a habit to see if there were snipers.
She reached the door, and as she was about to open it, she heard a gunshot. It was close, to close. She turned around, and saw a man holding a older gun, smoke coming from the nozzel. Then she felt the pain, and looked down, seeing blood. She looked back to the man, who grinned at her as her world went dark. Her knees gave out, and she felt herself hit the ground before everything faded away; and that is how Bethany Petterson died.
