She was a few days into assuming her job at the circus, having taken a little time to find her niche, and she quickly learned the schedules so that she would know the best time to practice. Early mornings, before there were onlookers seemed best. The German Wheel was taking some time to master, and she knew she'd need to be able to do this blindfolded. Literally. So until then, early morning practices it was.
Tannis sighed and shoved the dark-lensed glasses far up on her nose and made sure her 'hair' was well covered before exiting the main tent. No need for unnecessary accidents or stares, and at least it was bright out so the glasses wouldn't draw many curious questions from the people starting to emerge for breakfast and setup. Glancing around, she started along the path to the dining tent, ravenous now that she was done practicing.

Volya had gotten better about finding his way around the circus, but early this morning he'd woken up and gotten a bit lost. Now he was flying around frantically trying to find SOMEONE, he knew, and looking around. He'd smelled food, and had gone in that direction, only to run into Tannis' forehead. He had been looking to the side, so his long hummingbird like beak didn't hurt her, but he did end up falling due to the impact.

Tannis didn't see Volya coming towards her, a disadvantage of not being able to let her snakes go uncovered, and so didn't realize she was in the line of fire until it was two late. She saw him at the last minute, her eyes going cross-eyed just in time to watch the little object smack into her forehead. Yet, even though caught by surprise, she was able to react quickly and lifted her hands to catch whatever it was.
"Oh dear." Frowning in confusion, she rubbed her forehead with one hand and stood there blinking at her minute assaulter. They were muted by her glasses, but she was pretty sure this little bird was...glowing?
"You aren't hurt, little one?" she asked, gently lifting him to eye level to get a good look, and assuming Volya was just a regular bird despite the bright feathers.

Volya shook himself a bit once he'd landed, and looked up at who he ran into. A surprised chirp left him, and he stumbled back, of the other's hand, and landed on the ground, but this time in human form. "I'm sorry!" he yelped, Russian accent very obvious as he basically cowered from her. He looked away from her, trying not to be to noticeable, as he pulled his hood up over his head, to hide the glow his hair was letting off. His eyes were glowing just the same, but he hid those too, by looking down.
Slowly getting up, which showed he was shorter than her. "I should have been looking where I was going." he continued to apologize, fidgeting with something he had in his pocket.

She let out a small 'Oh!' of surprise and took a step back as he fell and suddenly became a boy. Her snakes squirmed in response to her surprise, but she had secured their wrapping so there were no escapists.
She shoved the glasses further up her nose and stared at him while he collected himself and apologized, trying to figure him out. Finally she waved her hand dismissively. It wasn't like a hummingbird could hurt that much.
"It's alright. No harm done. Are you alright?"

The motion of her hand seemed to startle the poor boy, and he flinched a little, but didn't bolt, so that was a start. "D-da... I'm okay." he said softly as he fidgeted more with whatever was in his pocket. He may not have bolted already, but he looked like he wanted to run away and hide, which had gotten him lost in the first place. "Um... do you know... where the dinning tent is?" he asked after a bit of thinking on if he should ask.

She didn't miss the flinch and recalled a time when she was twitchy around people like that too. She still kind of was. Poor boy. She stuffed her hands in her pockets and nodded, tilting her head in the direction they had to go.
"I was just going there. I can show you if you would like." She smiled softly and wondered if she was playing the 'nice and friendly' role right.

A little smile crossed the Firebird's face. "Thank you." he said as he kept his own hands in his pockets. He then followed along with her once they were on their way. He was quiet for some time, before he spoke up. "I-I'm Volya." he introduced himself as he peeked over at the taller female. "How long have you been here?" he asked curiously.

"I'm Tannis." She lifted a hand to hold her glasses tightly to her face before looking back at him, keeping that small smile going. "And I haven't been here very long at all. Just started really." She turned her attention back up the path. "What about you, Volya?"

Volya nodded his head lightly at that, and fidgeted a bit less now. "I just started too, don't quite know what I'll be doing either." he explained a bit, mentally praising himself for not stuttering at all during that sentence. Tannis seemed very nice, and he slowly was feeling more comfortable with her as they walked along the path towards the dinning tent.
Once there, Volya seemed to draw closer to Tannis, scared of the large crowd though. He glanced around, curious on if Rhys was around. The other bird had become hissort of safe haven when in crowded areas, since he'd been so nice to him when he first arrived. Him and Jenna, so either one worked.

"Ah, you need a job still? I found one but I need to practice before I can do it, unfortunately." She glanced around, looking for a hopefully quiet corner to sit. And it didn't look like Volya was ready to part ways yet, though he seemed to be looking for someone. She was a little bothered by that, no one could say she as a people person, but...darn it the bird boy probably brought out the protective in everyone.
"I'm going to go grab a plate.... if you want to join me? At least until you spot someone you know?"

Volya glanced over to Tannis again, and swallowed lightly. "Yea, Rhys and Jenna have been trying to help me find something to do, but I'm no good at anything." he said softly, looking down, but just followed her when she headed to get a plate and food. He nodded and stood behind her in line. He ended up filling his plate as much as he was allowed to, which seemed like way to much for the small male, but many had leaned he ate a lot, came with his bird form being a hummingbird.

"I didn't believe it for a while, but everyone is good at ssss- um, something." She filled her plate too, though in contrast to Volya she seemed to need or want very little. She lead him to a less crowded spot to sit. "You just need to think of something you like and go from there."

The sound that Tannis made when she hissed that 'S' made Volya involuntarily tense up, and with the fact that she knew he was a small bird, she'd probably realize it was because it reminded him of a snake, and snakes were dangerous for small birds. "No, I'm really no good at anything but running." he muttered softly, picking at his food, but soon even his sad mood didn't keep him from eating as much as he could.

She arched an eyebrow, surprised such a small guy could devour so much food. And here she had been assuming his eyes were bigger than his stomach. She took a bite of her food and hummed thoughtfully. "Well then, what's something you like? A hobby or anything like that?" She picked up a piece of fruit next. "Or maybe someone here can inspire you."
